Dear Junior Sailing Directors, Learn to Sail Instructors and Parents,
The Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron (RNSYS), will host the 2017 Canadian Optimist Championships,
This event is open to all sailors, male and female aged 15 and under. This Regatta will consist of two fleets, a Green Fleet course for novice sailors with little or no racing
experience and a Championship Fleet for those with previous racing experience. The Green Fleet participants will receive on course instruction by coaches when needed.
For the Championship Fleet this event serves as the Team Canada qualifier for the 2018 IODA events including North American, South American, European and World Championships.
In preparation for the 2017 Canadian Optimist Championships, there will be a two-day test event for all sailors who wish to practice at the venue prior to the regatta. RNSYS will host the Kennedy Cup August 18-19, 2017.
In addition to strong participation from sailors in the Atlantic Provinces, we anticipate and welcome sailors from across Canada, as well as international Optimist racers.
The 2017 Canadian Optimist Championship is a great opportunity for all levels of sailors, as well as for coaches and families, to enjoy a unique week of sailing while having fun together. The RNSYS has enthusiastic and experienced members who appreciate the value of hosting international events. It’s location on the North West Arm provides outstanding ocean sailing conditions, top-notch club amenities and access to the historic city of Halifax.
