What about this Green Fleet?
Green Fleet is a special fleet for beginners. Green fleeters can be any age up to 15. A green fleet might have skippers who are as young as 6 and as old as 15, but sooner or later they'll move into their age-appropriate fleet. The purpose of the green fleet is to encourage novice sailors to race in a safe and nurturing environment.
The Green Fleet is the first stepping-stone for competent beginners aiming towards mastering the basics of sailboat racing. The focus of the Green Fleet is on fun, coaching and learning in practical situations. After graduating from the Green Fleet, sailor’s progress into the main BODA racing fleet. Clinics are provided at no cost to sailors other than the $50 annual BODA membership. Many of the larger regattas in the U.S. have Green Fleets racing at the same venue on their own course alongside the main fleet, which provides a supervised sailing environment for younger sailors to literally “get their feet wet”. Local hot shots such as Zander Kirkland, Katrina Williams, Sean Bouchard, Oliver Riihiluoma and Dimitri Stevens all got their start racing in Optimist Dinghy Green Fleets.
